Safety Institute

California
Institute for the Study of Specialty Crops
The California
Institute for the Study of Specialty Crops (CISSC) was established
in July 2003 with a grant from the California Department of Food and
Agriculture's Buy California program. CISSC's mandate is to conduct
applied research on economic and public policy issues related to
California a specialty crops' competitiveness; conduct outreach to
disseminate research findings among agricultural organizations and
associations, legislators, policy makers, government agencies, and
other stakeholders; and provide hands-on educational opportunities
for graduate and undergraduate students.
Coastal
Resources Institute
Dedicated to resolving issues involving the management of natural resources such as land, water, timber, flora and
fauna. Coastal Resources Institute (CRI) provides a wide range of
services, including management plans, habitat audits,
environmental/social impact inventories and analyses, and policy
planning. The following analytical services are available through
CRI: general soil and plant tissue analysis; water analysis for
trace metals, semi-volatile organics, pesticides, and other
elements; genetic analysis for identification of natural populations
of plants, animals, and microbes; and map and database creation,
update, plotting, and analysis with Geographic Information Systems.
Institute affiliates have access to a wide variety of laboratory and
computer equipment, ranging from electronic spectrophotometers to
computerized mapping and photo interpretation software.
Dairy
Products Tech Center
The Dairy Products Technology Center (DPTC) supports the maintenance,
growth and continued economic health of the dairy foods industry.
The overall mission of the Dairy Products Technology Center is to
support the maintenance, growth and continued economic health of the
dairy foods industry. To accomplish this mission, the DPTC conduct
timely research that provides the scientific and technological basis
for new and improved dairy food products and processes which utilize
dairy-based ingredients. Increase
the number of well-trained students available to enter careers in
the dairy industry and allied fields. Enhance
technology transfer by offering short courses, symposia, and
publications to the dairy/foods industry. Ensure
that dairy products are safe, wholesome and nutritious.
Irrigation
Training and Research
The Irrigation Training and Research Center (ITRC) was established in 1989 at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, as a center of excellence, building on a history of contributions to the irrigation industry.
Sustainable
Agriculture Resource Consortium
The Sustainable Agriculture Resource Consortium's (SARC) purpose is
to advance sustainable food and agriculture systems through
education, demonstration of sustainable agricultural practices,
investigation, and facilitation of collaborative efforts for
sustainability, both on campus and in our community. Above all, the
SARC is a network of individuals interested in sustainable
agriculture. SARC programs provide a forum in which people share
ideas on how we can strengthen the sustainability of our food and
agricultural system. SARC projects have included everything from
curriculum development for Cal Poly students, informational lectures
for the general public, management of the Cal Poly Organic Farm,
continuing education classes and professional development seminars.
Urban
Forest Ecosystems Institute
The Urban Forest Ecosystems Institute (UFEI) was developed by the Natural Resources Management Department faculty to address the increasing need for improved management of the urban forests in California.
