Horticulture & Crop Science

If you have an interest in plants, enjoy working outdoors, and like to interact with people, a career in the Environmental Horticulture industry may be a perfect fit for you!  Professionals in this industry understand how plants grow and are experts in the culture and utilization of plants to enhance our environment. California is home to some of the largest nurseries, greenhouse operations, and landscape maintenance companies in the United States and ranks second among states in the number of golf courses. The state's horticulture industry is a multibillion-dollar business that provides many exciting opportunities for qualified individuals. Graduating seniors are high in demand by the industry and typical graduates have several job opportunities from which to choose.
Ag Facts

In any given year, we produce 50% of all agricultural baccalaureate degrees in California and 50% of all new K-12 teachers of agriculture in California.

Students majoring in Crop Science or Fruit Science are attaining careers with private sector companies involved with production and related service industries.  Alternatively, graduates find rewarding careers with agricultural agencies at the county, State, and Federal level in the public sector.  With cropland on campus students enjoy hands-on experiential laboratories to enhance their learning and an awareness of industry.  The Crop Science program offers outstanding facilities, one-on-one interactions with faculty, industry internships, and opportunities to become involved with professional organizations and societies.
